| Project Experience: Intrafield Flowlines/Jumper Systems
INTEC assisted Shell Offshore Inc. (SOI) in New Orleans with the implementation of a subsea satellite well development. The single well, known as Rocky, is located approximately 4 miles from the Bullwinkle platform and is tied back to the platform with dual 3-inch flowlines. First production started in January 1996.
The production is expected to be paraffinic, requiring that high temperature be maintained throughout the flowline system in order to prevent paraffin deposition. Each flowline is encased in a 6-inch jacket pipe, with foam insulation placed within the annulus space, to minimize heat loss. The subsea tree contains a piggable flowloop allowing periodic pigging from the platform. The flowlines were installed with the reeling method, laying the two flowlines from the Bullwinkle platform to a common sled, a short distance from the subsea well. A flexible jumper connects the sled to the subsea well.
INTEC's role was that of Project Services Contractor (PSC), as well as the subsea engineering coordinator. INTEC was responsible for the design of the flowline system, and for the technical interfacing and coordination of the various manufacturers and contractors.
