| Project Experience: Flow Assurance
System Thermal-Hydraulic Design for Wax and Hydrate Prevention and Control
INTEC has executed many projects for operators in which flow assurance was a major aspect of the design effort. INTEC Flow Assurance programs typically develop production tubing and production flowline design features (diameters and insulation) for deliverability and for hydrate and wax control and flow system operability. Flow system operating philosophies and operating logic diagrams are also developed. Several of the recent projects are highlighted below.
Shell:
- In 1995, a comprehensive development study for a proposed deepwater field for Shell (16-mile tieback to Bullwinkle).
- In 1996, an early conceptual design for key flow system components for another Shell deepwater field. The effect of produced-fluid GOR on system design and operability was included. This design effort included a study of multiphase pump applicability; establishing criteria for economic applications of subsea multiphase pumps.
- INTEC also participates in front-end flow assurance designs for several "frontier" Shell fields in the Gulf of Mexico
Marathon:
- In 1995, the conceptual design for the Marathon/BP/Shell Olivella field (now the BP-operated Troika development), a 14-mile deepwater tieback to Shell's Bullwinkle Platform.
- In 1996, a conceptual design for the Arnold field, tied-back to the Lobster platform.
- In 1996, a preliminary design for the Oyster field, tied-back to the Lobster platform.
Chevron:
- A deepwater production system design study for Chevron in 1995 included a study of multiphase pump applicability, establishing criteria for economic applications of subsea multiphase pumps.
Texaco:
- A conceptual level design for the Mosquito Hawk field, in 1996.
- A conceptual design for the Fuji 30 mile tie-back to Shell's Bullwinkle platform, in 1996.
- In 1996/1997 preliminary designs for the deepwater Gorgon (Western Australia) gas field have been developed.
WAPET:
- In 1997, flow assurance design of a subsea production system for WAPET's Chrysaor deepwater gas field (Western Australia).
Exxon:
- Conceptual design for the Diana field for Exxon USA.
- A Multiphase Pump Applicability Study (focusing on optimization for power cost) for EPRCo.
