Project Experience: Riser Systems
INTEC provided Design and Project Management services for a variety of riser systems, including conventional steel risers, flexible pipe risers, steel catenary risers and hybrid risers:
- Mobil Deepwater Studies - INTEC performed a general study for use of 6- to 24-inch Steel Catenary Risers (SCRs) in water depths ranging from 1,500 ft to 6,000 ft (457 to 1,829 m).
- Hybrid riser tower concepts were specified for the Girassol and Exxon Angola Block 15 Projects, with design incorporating vertical flowline bundles supported by buoyant air cans and connected to FPSOs by flexible jumpers.
- Flexible riser systems were optimized and specified on a variety of projects, including the Pogo Tantawan Pipeline Project in the Gulf of Thailand and Lasmo Cohasset / Panuke Field Development Project.
- Mobil Green Canyon SCR Flowline Project - INTEC was responsible for detailed design of SCRs, tie-ins and connection equipment, including tapered stress joint preparation, fatigue analyses, tie-in porch designs, riser clamps and installation supervision.
- Allegheny SeaStar TLP - INTEC performed the design verification for the 12-inch export SCRs and 4-inch flowline SCRs for the Allegheny SeaStar TLP in 3,300 ft (1,006 m) water depth in Green Canyon Block 254. The SCRs are connected to the SeaStar TLP using Titanium Stress Joints.
- Amoco King/King's Peak Field Development - INTEC performed preliminary engineering design for a high-pressure oil and gas field development located in a water depth of approximately 5,500 ft (1,677 m). The system utilized an insulated pipe-in-pipe (PIP) flowline system and Steel Catenary Risers. Innovations by INTEC included first SCR PIP system and installation-based bulkhead design.
- Mobil Research SCR Study - INTEC performed a study for Mobil Research Development Corporation (MRDC) to investigate the feasibility of SCRs for Tension Leg Platform (TLPs) and a 330,000 DWT tanker-based floating production and offloading system (FPSO) for nominal sites in the Rockall Area west of the Hebrides (west of Scotland) in the North Atlantic. Water depths of 1,500, 3,000 and 6,000 ft (457, 915 and 1,829 m) were considered with pipe diameters of 6- to 24-inch.
- Ensearch Allegheny Development - INTEC performed preliminary engineering for a configuration in which a series of insulated flowlines and export pipelines were suspended as SCRs from a Tension Leg Riser (TLR) buoy. The subsurface buoy was located 500 ft (152 m) below the sea surface. Flexible pipe jumpers were used between the buoy and a semi-submersible floating production facility. Reel-lay flowlines consisting of 4-inch in 6-inch pipe-in-pipe were proposed for the individual wells. In addition, two 12-inch or 16-inch export risers were suspended from the TLR buoy using either S-lay or J-lay installation techniques.
- Mobil Green Canyon Block 60 - INTEC performed detailed design and installation engineering of the SCRs, flowlines and umbilical as part of the Mobil Green Canyon Block 60 Yukon Subsea Field Development. The flowlines were tied in at the template using atmospheric diving system (ADS) installed spool pieces, and at the platform using SCRs.
- El Paso Prince Project - INTEC performed the detail analysis and design of the two 12-inch oil and 12-inch gas export SCRs for the Prince Project (formally the Sunday Silence). The two export SCRs are connected to the Moses TLP in a water depth of 1,492 ft (455 m) in Ewing Bank Block 1003 in the Gulf of Mexico.
- Texaco Agbami Project - INTEC performed the Front End Engineering Design (FEED) work for the Texaco Agbami field development project offshore Nigeria. The concept involved 12-inch production and 10-inch gas injection SCRs hung-off from the side of a spread moored FPSO. The use of Flexible pipes for the subsea tiebacks were evaluated as an alternative to SCRs. In addition a detailed study including dynamic analysis, fatigue and clashing assessments was performed for the flexible transfer lines between the FPSO and Dry Tree Unit (DTU).
- BP Mardi Gras Transportation System - INTEC is responsible for detailed design of export SCRs and pipelines for Mad Dog, Thunder Horse, Holstein and Atlantis developments in the Southern Green Canyon and Mississippi Canyon areas of the Gulf of Mexico in water depths ranging from 4,500 to 7,200 ft (1,372 to 2,195 m). Pipe diameters up to 28 inch (6 m) have been investigated.
- Shell Bonga Project - INTEC has performed the detailed engineering for the Shell Bonga Project SCRs. The scope of work includes 16-inch gas export SCR, 12-inch water injection SCRs, 12-inch productions SCRs and 10-inch production SCRs. The SCRs are supported by a spread moored FPSO in 3,300 ft (1,006 m) of water.
- Norske Hydro Ormen Lange study - INTEC evaluated a range of subsea and riser layout options for the Ormen Lange Gas Field in the North Sea. Conventional SCRs, Lazy-wave SCRs and hybrid riser tower concepts were established, technically evaluated and costed. Line sizes up to 30-inch were considered in a water depth of 900 m (2,950-ft).
- Chevron Beguela-Belize-Tomboco compliant piled tower (CPT) riser study - INTEC performed front end engineering engineering for a range of riser concepts including conventional pre-installed risers, J-tube systems for post-installation and SCRs.
