| Project Experience: System Operability and Operating Procedures
System operability is necessarily a major consideration in designing for Flow Assurance. Several of the projects wherein INTEC has been able to make significant contributions in the operability design are highlighted below.
- In 1995, for Shell's deepwater 16-mile tie-back to Bullwinkle, flow system operating philosophies and logic diagrams were developed in conjunction with the system thermal-hydraulic design.
- Flow system operating philosophies and logic diagrams were developed in conjunction with the 1995 Marathon/BP/Shell Olivella system thermal-hydraulic design.
- In 1996, INTEC (in conjunction with and for Shell Offshore Inc.) helped develop the Troika Field Development Operating/Commissioning Strategy for the BP-operated Troika producing to Shell's Bullwinkle platform. This effort translated the operating logic developed in the Marathon Olivella development study into an operating strategy required to commission and operate the Troika subsea production system to Bullwinkle.
- Also in 1996, INTEC conducted a study for Shell Offshore Inc. to help prepare the upgraded Bullwinkle platform for operation of multiple subsea developments to and by the common facility. Topics covered included the operating issues involved, facilities and equipment issues, methanol storage and supply and production control optimization, and establishment of design and operating guidelines for subsea developments producing to the host facility.
