DMaC: Track Record
_
_ DMaC Track Record

Over 600 DMaC diverless connections completed. Deck-to-Deck flowline connection time as little as 7 hours.

The DMaC Flowline Pull-In and Connection System was initially developed by FUEL Subsea Engineering (now Intec) in 1989.

The System has been extensively tested on land and in water using multiple bore and single jumpers up to 12" in diameter prior to commercial application starting in 1994.

Five DMaC tooling systems have been built and have been used to pull in and connect all of the DMaC infield flowline and umbilical connections on the BP Foinaven and Schiehallion developments West of Shetland in extreme environmental conditions and water depths ranging from 400 msw to 550 msw.

In the summer of 2001 the 500th DMaC connection was completed, with ‘standard’ flowline connection times close to 12 hours. Standard connection time includes all activities from the launch of the flowline connection tool until its return to the deck, following completion of the verification pressure test.

Those 500 connections comprise:
248 flowline connections
These connections were a mixture of single and multi pipeline connections. Single lines comprised 6-inch, 8-inch and 10-inch pipelines. Bundled lines made-up in a single DMaC connection operation comprised (2 X 6-inch plus 1 X 2-inch), (6-inch plus 2-inch) and (8-inch plus 2X2-inch).
246 Fly to Place Umbilical Connections
These connections incorporated several different combinations of electrical and hydraulic connectors made-up simultaneously. Typically there can be 10 or more hydraulic connections of sizes ranging from ¼-inch to 1-inch and up to four wet mateable electrical connectors carrying both power and signal
6 Main Umbilical Connections
These use the DMaC flowline connection system to make up 14 hydraulic connections of varying sizes and 4 multi-pin electrical connectors. The pullhead also provides a home for oil filled pressure compensated electrical distribution circuits.
Continuous improvements in the system mean that by the end of the 2002 offshore work program the number of completed DMaC connections exceeded 600 and the ‘Standard time’ for flowline connections had been reduced to close to 7 hours.
